Interesting take on Gold by Padley but what he neglects to mention is that it has been a asset for 5000 years and it has always held its value.  The problems with the US dollar began when they came off the gold standard.  Moreover, the “barbarous relic” becomes a tier 1 asset on July first according to Basel 3.  In other words it will be treated like a monetary asset by banks and institutions.

On July 1st, 2025, Basel III regulations will classify physical gold as a Tier 1 asset, meaning it will be treated as a high-quality liquid asset (HQLA) and counted at full market value towards banks' core capital reserves according to Forbes. This is a significant change from its previous classification as a Tier 3 asset, where it was valued at only 50% of its market value

They don’t want ordinary people to hold it.   The thing is that there is no counterparty risks attached to gold.  You buy it and you hold it in your hand.  If they want it they need to prise it out of your cold , dead, hand (confiscation).  Unlike money in the bank it has no other claims on it.  It is not a derivative or a CDO which has been farmed out multiple times.  It is not an ETF. It is not “digits on a screen” (BTC).  All those systems work if there is no fraud and corruption.  We are drowning in malfeasance.   He who has the gold makes the rules and if you don’t hold it you don’t own it.  Those are simple things to understand.  Even I understand it.
