The unexpected impact jolted the USGS magnetometer in Boulder, CO, by 40 nT, a fairly stout blow. A <a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweather.com\/glossary\/g1.jpg\">G1<\/a> geomagnetic storm watch is in effect as a result of the CME&#8217;s arrival. <strong>CME impact alerts:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweatheralerts.com\">SMS Tex<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweatheralerts.com\">t<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SOLAR CYCLE 25 CONTINUES TO SURGE: <\/strong><\/span>Solar activity continues to intensify. In August 2024, the average <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sidc.be\/SILSO\/\">monthly sunspot number<\/a> exceeded 200 for the first time in 23 years, almost doubling the official forecast:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-70132\" src=\"https:\/\/www.biblaridion.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/sunspotnumbers-e1725496230857.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"220\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The current solar cycle (Solar Cycle 25) wasn&#8217;t expected to be this strong. When it began in Dec. 2019, experts predicted it would be weak like its immediate predecessor Solar Cycle 24. Instead, Solar Cycle 25 may be on pace to rival some of the stronger cycles of the 20th century. Already in May 2024 we have experienced <a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweatherarchive.com\/2024\/05\/19\/rare-south-pacific-auroras\/\">a century-class geomagnetic storm<\/a> with auroras sighted in the South Pacific, central America and south Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The last time sunspot counts were this high, in Sept.-Dec. 2001, the sun was winding up to launch the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2003_Halloween_solar_storms\">Great Halloween Storms of &#8217;03<\/a>, which included the strongest X-ray solar flare ever recorded (<a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1029\/2003GL019345\">X45<\/a>) and a CME so potent it was felt by Voyager at the edge of the solar system.
