Kazakhstan

Why am I featuring Kazakhstan?   It is a huge country on the borders of Russia and has many similarities with Ukraine in that both countries suffered greatly under the old USSR with its policies of collectivized farming and depopulation.  I am not an apologist for Communisms or the old USSR.  It took decades for Kazakhstan to start recovering from the population decline and the environmental damage left by the old USSR may never be undone. There were huge demographic changes during this period with ethnic Russians living in the Northern regions and the displacement of ethnic Kahzaks. Since the discovery of oil and gas  things have now turned around.  Supposedly  Medvedev tweeted some time back that Northern Russian speaking Kazakhstan belong with Russia similar to what has happened to Ukraine.  He removed the tweet and said that his account had been hacked.  I believe him. Medvedev was  President of Russia between 2008 and 2012 and Prime Minister of Russia between 2012 and 2020. Why do I believe Medvedev?  I believe him because Great Britain just signed a treaty with Khazakstan. This sounds like the work of Perfidious Albion wanting to provoke a two-front war.

The new Russia is not like the old Russia (this from a tweet)….

In 2000, Vladimir Putin inherited a bankrupt country on the brink of civil war and collapse. Oligarchs had raided state assets; gangsters roamed the streets. Joblessness and very low living standards were widespread. Average life expectancy for men fell below age 59.

Today, according to Bloomberg, Russia has one of the highest foreign exchange reserves in the world. Non-oil and gas revenues surged to record levels in 2023. Due to the complex management of a diverse economy, GDP grew by 4.1% in 2024 – despite high interest rates.

The number one exporter of fertilizer, non-GMO grain and uranium, Russia is also a top producer of ice cream and pork products. Russia has a growing middle class, an educated work force, and is achieving unparalleled economic self-sufficiency.

Sanctions helped Putin turbo charge Russian reindustrialization, something Trump is attempting to do with tariffs in the U.S. (self-imposed sanctions). Putin’s policies have made Russia Great Again – and a “normal” country that does not want to govern non-Russian people.
