Fables and Myths

What Happened?

On Friday, June 12, 2026, Anthropic abruptly disabled global access to its two most powerful, state-of-the-art AI models: Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5.

This wasn’t due to a technical glitch. Anthropic pulled the models off the market to comply with an urgent export control directive issued by the Trump administration. The directive cited national security concerns and banned any foreign national—whether located inside or outside the U.S., and including Anthropic’s own foreign-national employees—from accessing these models. Because Anthropic had no immediate way to reliably separate U.S. citizens from foreign nationals in real-time across millions of users, they chose to shut the models down entirely.

What are Fable and Mythos?

These models represent Anthropic’s most advanced tier of AI capabilities, specifically engineered for long-running, autonomous tasks and heavy codebase analysis.

AWS
  • Claude Mythos 5: Originally previewed in April 2026, Mythos is Anthropic’s most powerful model. It was kept in a highly restricted, limited preview for a small group of vetted organizations. It is incredibly potent at finding and fixing software vulnerabilities (cybersecurity) and assisting in life sciences (like drug design and biodefense screening).

    AWS
  • Claude Fable 5: Released publicly just days before the government shutdown, Fable 5 was the “consumer-safe” version of Mythos. It possessed the same high-level coding and reasoning capabilities but was built with strict safety guardrails. If a user asked Fable 5 a high-risk cyber or biological question, the system was designed to automatically route the prompt to a weaker model to prevent misuse

**Remember that a dialectic is being set up. Anthropic=good AI (the Pope approves)  and Palantir=bad AI (Thiel the Antichrist approves)

I had Fable build several projects for me. I’m disturbed by what I saw. (21 min)
