Look out for the Shoggoth

The United States has significantly more data centers, including "huge" or hyperscale facilities, than China or Russia. As of late 2025, the estimated numbers of data centers by country are:

United States: approximately 5,427 data centers, including 642 hyperscale facilities.
China: approximately 449 data centers, including 190 hyperscale facilities.
Russia: approximately 251 data centers (colocation sites), with a smaller number of large-scale facilities compared to the US and China.

The United States leads globally, accounting for nearly half of all data centers worldwide. While China is a growing technology powerhouse with major investments in AI data centers, including unique projects like an underwater facility, its total number is a fraction of the US total. Russia's data center market is smaller still, with most facilities concentrated in Moscow.
