Pope Francis dies
The “Prophecy of the Popes,” attributed to St. Malachy, claims to predict the last Pope as “Peter the Roman,” who will be the last Pope to sit on the throne of Saint Peter before the end of the world. This prophecy states that the last Pope will shepherd his flock through great tribulation, and after which, the city of Rome will be destroyed, and the final judgment will occur. The prophecy also mentions a previous pope, “Benedict XVI,” as the 111th pope, who is considered to have been the current pope at the time the prophecy was created
The prophecy is attributed to St. Malachy, an Irish archbishop from the 12th century. The prophecy lists 112 popes, and the last one is described as “Peter the Roman”
