The plebs know
The word pleb or plebs (plural) is Old English but it comes originally from the Latin word plebeian meaning "common folk". The common folk are in contrast to the elite. A modern term might be deplorables. The thing is we know we are being fooled. We might not have quite worked out how the sorcerer does his tricks but we know we are watching a performance.
