THE YEN CARRY SINGULARITY
Japan’s 40-year bond just hit 3.69%. The highest since 2007.
This is not a number. This is a detonator.
Behind that yield sits $20 trillion in carry trade exposure. Borrowed yen funding everything from Treasuries to tech stocks to Bitcoin. For… pic.twitter.com/mER7zvM38R

Holy Sh*t… Did You See What Just Happened to India’s Currency?!
Comments:
I heard that exports dropped 12% this month and Indians bought $140B of gold this festive season. Hence the hit to the rupee. But internal spending is robust.
The rupee touched 89.48, sliding past its previous all-time low of 88.80 hit in late September and again earlier this month. It was down 0.8% on the day. 😅😄😅
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin that is designed to maintain a stable value by being pegged to the U.S. dollar. It is one of the most popular stablecoins, launched in 2014 to serve as a bridge between traditional fiat currencies and the cryptocurrency market.
Pegged to the USD:
USDT aims to maintain a 1:1 ratio with the U.S. dollar, making it a low-volatility option compared to other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Reserve-backed:
The value of USDT is intended to be backed by a reserve of assets, including fiat currency, cash equivalents, and other investments.
Used for transactions:
Its stable nature makes it suitable for trading, making payments, and as a way to hold value without significant price fluctuations.
Market leader:
USDT is the largest stablecoin by market capitalization and has greater adoption than many other stablecoins.
This is the magic trick. No one wants to buy long-term US Treauries so the institutions etc can now buy Tether.
Tether does not pay interest or yield directly to holders of its USDT token; the company generates revenue by earning interest on its reserves. it uses a portion of its profits, earned primarily from US Treasury holdings, to accumulate gold as a strategic reserve and hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. This accumulation is part of a diversification strategy to enhance the stability of its stablecoin, USDT, and strengthen its overall security.
So let me simplyify. US debt is represented by an IOU (Treasuries) which Tether now buys and the yield or interest is used to buy gold. So when the long term Treasury is mature its value will be worthless (due to inflation) but the yield would have been siphoned off to buy gold. So they are swapping debt for gold. Genius! (lolz).

Backwardation is a market condition where the current spot price of an asset is higher than its price for future delivery. This is the opposite of contango, and it typically signals strong current demand or a temporary supply shortage. In a backwardated market, future contracts trade at a discount to the spot price.Â
Causes of backwardation
High current demand: When current demand is high, the spot price of a commodity is pushed up, creating a premium over future prices.
Supply constraints: A current shortage of a commodity, due to factors like production issues or transportation problems, can lead to backwardation.
Seasonal factors: Backwardation can occur with seasonal commodities, such as heating oil in winter, as a result of increased demand.
Market expectations: Traders may expect the price to fall in the future, or they may be willing to accept a lower price for a future contract to secure a guaranteed price.Â
