Time line of important events:
2013 Maidan Revolution
President Yanukovych’s sudden decision not to sign a political association and free trade agreement with the European Union (EU), instead choosing closer ties to Russia. Earlier that year, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) had overwhelmingly approved finalizing the agreement with the EU. Russia had put pressure on Ukraine to reject it and the Euromaidan protests erupted in 2013. On 21 February, Yanukovych and the parliamentary opposition signed an agreement to bring about an interim unity government, constitutional reforms and early elections.Police abandoned central Kyiv that afternoon and the protesters took control. Yanukovych fled the city that evening.
2014 Crimea Annexation
In February and March 2014, Russia invaded and subsequently annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine. This event took place in the relative power vacuum[31] on the immediate aftermath of the Revolution of Dignity and was the beginning act of the wider Russo-Ukrainian War.The events in Kyiv that ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych on 22 February 2014 sparked pro-Russian demonstrations as of 23 February against the incoming new Ukrainian government.
2015-Syrian Intervention
The Russian military intervention in the Syrian civil war began in September 2015, after a request by Assad government for military aid against opposition militias and Islamic State (IS). The intervention was kick-started by extensive air strikes across Syria, focused on attacking opposition strongholds of Free Syrian militias of Revolutionary Command Council and Sunni militias under Army of Conquest coalition.Here is a map of the mess that is Syria
2019 Trump recognizes Golan Heights
On March 25, 2019, the United States officially recognized the Golan Heights as being under the sovereignty of Israel. Signed into effect by the Trump administration.
2020 Qasem Soleimani assasinated
On 3 January 2020, Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian major general, was targeted and killed by a U.S. drone strike near the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq while he was on his way to meet Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.
2020- Pandemic and Biden elected
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) [prounonced FAKE] 0n 30 January 2020, and began referring to it as a pandemic on 11 March 2020. Biden elected on 20th Jan.
2020 Abraham Accords
The Abraham Accords are a series of joint normalization statements initially between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, effective since September 15, 2020.
2022 invasion of Ukraine
On 21 February 2022, Russia officially recognized the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic and, three days later, started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, during which they occupied territory in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts, with formal military occupations beginning in the first week.
